Questions

Straight answers about how mentoring works, funding and getting started.

How do I get started?

Email simon@communityhelp.com.au with a line or two about what you'd like help with. Simon will reply to set up a free 20 to 30 minute video chat: you talk about what you want to change, we explain how sessions work, and together we decide if it's a good fit. No pressure and no cost.

Do I need NDIS funding?

No. You can pay privately (email for current rates). If you have an NDIS plan that's self-managed or plan-managed, sessions can usually be funded from it.

Can you work with my NDIS plan?

Yes, if your plan is self-managed or plan-managed. Community Help Co is an unregistered NDIS provider, so we can't be paid from NDIA-managed (agency-managed) plans. If you're not sure how your plan is managed, ask your support coordinator or plan manager, or we can help you check.

Is this therapy or counselling?

No. Mentoring is practical, goal-focused support. It isn't therapy, counselling or medical advice. If you need those, we can help you work out who to contact.

Where do sessions happen?

Online, on Microsoft Teams, so you can join from home on a phone, tablet or computer. We work with people across Australia; we're based in Melbourne.

How long and how often are sessions?

Usually one session a week. We'll agree the length with you during the free chat so it fits your plan and your energy.

What are the written notes?

After each session you get a short summary: the goals you set, what went well, what got in the way and the next steps. Many people share them with family or their support coordinator.

I'm a support coordinator. How do I refer someone?

Use the referral form on our contact page, or email simon@communityhelp.com.au. Please don't include health details or NDIS numbers; we'll talk about that privately.

What if I'm in crisis?

Community Help Co isn't a crisis service. If you or someone else is in danger, call 000. For 24/7 support, call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
