Each morning
- I'm grateful for (three things)
- What will make today great (three actions)
- Daily saying or affirmation
Each evening
- Amazing things from yesterday (three)
- Lesson learnt
- Daily win
How to use it
Morning: set the day up
Write three things you're grateful for, three actions that would make today great, and one affirmation. Keep the actions small enough to actually do today.
Evening: look back
Note three good things, one lesson and one win, however small. Wins count: a phone call made, a walk taken, a job applied for.
Once a week: read back
Flick through the last seven days. Patterns jump out: what keeps making days great, and what keeps getting in the way. That's where the next goal comes from.
I've been keeping a daily journal for years now, and it has substantially improved my life. This simple structure keeps you focused, grounded, and aligned with your goals.
Journal prompts for when the page stares back
Gratitude
- Who made my life a little easier this week?
- What's something I use every day that I'd miss?
- What went better than I expected recently?
- What's a small moment from yesterday I'd happily repeat?
Intentions
- What is one thing that would make today feel worthwhile?
- What have I been putting off that would take under ten minutes?
- Who could I check in with today?
- What would future me thank me for doing today?
Reflection
- What gave me energy today, and what drained it?
- What did I learn about myself this week?
- What's one thing I handled better than I would have a year ago?
- What would I do differently tomorrow?
Daily affirmation ideas
Pick one that feels true enough, and write the same one every day for a week. Repetition is the point.
- I can do hard things, one step at a time.
- Small steps every day add up.
- I'm allowed to ask for help.
- I show up for myself, even on slow days.
- My progress counts, even when it's quiet.
- I learn from today and start fresh tomorrow.
- I'm building a life that feels like mine.
- I don't have to be perfect to make progress.
